SHIFT:  Days- 35 hours/wk.  - 36 wks./yr.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

B.I.T. (Behavior Intervention Team) Teacher Assistant will be responsible for collecting data and participating in the creation and execution of behavior intervention plans for students with behavioral issues as needed in a variety of general education settings.   The B.I.T. teacher assistant will travel to the classrooms of assigned students within the program.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  1. Collect behavior data for students.
  2. Implement and monitor intervention plans of assigned students.
  3. Travel to classrooms/schools to assigned students.
  4. Work with Behavior Intervention team to assess the effectiveness of behavior plans and adjust accordingly.
  5. Communicate effectively with staff, students and parents to discuss behavioral issues and appropriate actions.
  6. Performs restraints if necessary.
  7. Attend B.I.T training as necessary.
  8. Other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations; the ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; the ability to develop an effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and the community; creative thinking, problem solving skills and the ability to reinforce information one on one and to small groups; must have an understanding of child development, specifically in the area of special services, experience with behavior intervention plans, restraint trained (and the physical ability to use restraints if necessary), willing and able to attend Behavior Intervention Training when offered and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of school department requirements and policies.

 

EDUCATION:

Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED).  An Associate’s Degree required with an emphasis in the field of special services, early childhood or elementary education.  One year related experience preferred.
